Recently, I was telling a person about my last 12 months – and the problem of pain…and yet so full of pressing into Him and such intimacy with God…and in conclusion, I said: “I would not exchange these past months for anything”….WHAT tha? Did I just say that? Yes I did!
And then, I shared something of my anguish over the pain my friend is going through…and my desire to see her released from that pain…it seems so wickedly inflicted and so needlessly hurtful…my frustration over seeing her have to endure something that could be fixed….God could reach down and heal, release, set free, undo. There seems no sense to this part of her journey.
Our discussion went on to others things…and then, all of a sudden I STOPPED.. and said, there’s the answer….
I realised…the very thing I wanted my friend to be released from – the pain – would also be her joy, her revelation of and with God…so I pray differently tonight…that He would be in the pain with her, strengthening, empowering, infusing His very Presence, Power and Peace into her, for as long as this part of the journey lasts…and His Perfect Love casts out all fear of the unknown. Our Hope in Him, His enduring Power, Presence and Peace for this often times painful journey of life.
I do not think God is about inflicting the pain we all have experienced. I do not for a minute think that He is happy or delighted in any way about anyone’s pain…globally…I do not think for a second, Jesus was ‘’into’’ pain either…thing is though, the pain that Jesus endured – on earth, the daily living pain, the seeing others in pain – that moved him to heal and set free, the pain in the Garden and then the enduring pain of the Cross…”yet not my will Father, but yours be done!” His pain had purpose – salvation, restoration for ALL to the Father. So must our pain also have purpose – drawing us to Him, into the presence of our Comforter and Friend….our ultimate Restoration to Father God.
Like many of you, I have experienced numerous types of pain…physical, emotional, mental, spiritual anguish…I do not recommend any of them…although, I acknowledge that all of them can bring amazing and unsuspecting results.
Pain is an unwelcome and uninvited guest that at times, just pushes it’s way into one’s life – usually quite rudely!
Perhaps it may sneak up and surprise us, or jolts us into a world of agony that violently apprehends every one of our senses.
I do not think pain is inflicted upon us by a Divine Being that thinks that pain is a good idea and a great object lesson. Our Creator did not, I believe, even or ever have the motivation to see pain in the world He created.
Where did pain come from?
Did Adam and Eve experience pain in the garden of Eden?
Pain only came after the fall…after sin…because there was now decay…not perpetual life, harmony, eternity…now brokenness in every part of life as Adam and Eve had known it…ENTER front and centre, even right and left field as well…PAIN at every turn…pain from every angle…now pain was ever present, in all its myriad forms….SIN brought the pain. The ‘dethroning’ of God brought pain and suffering into the world as we know it.
Does that mean then – as God is established in the hearts of His people again – as He is re-throned in their hearts – that pain and suffering, sickness and disease must (in an ever increasing measure) depart? Yes – I do believe that and that greater numbers of people will experience His restorative relationship and resurrection Power….today!
I am coming from the viewpoint that, at the time of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, the fall and the subsequent results, the cause and effect of their actions – where felt then and increasingly throughout the growth of humanity and to a greater extent, that sin and pain grew and was and is more evident subject to the simple numerical growth of humanity – populating the earth.
THEN – Jesus came…to reverse this “cause and effect”. Creator God’s plan to restore and re-establish His order of things, His original plan for His creation – was never pain and dis-ease. And so the ‘’cause and effect’’ of Jesus life, death and resurrection was and is such that, now the new order (or original order) is now being established on earth – as it is in Heaven. The reversal of pain, sickness and disease…beginning with Jesus and the twelve disciples going out among the people, preaching Good News, healing the sick and raising the dead. This Good News spreading via this small number of people and then spreading further and further out amongst the nations….to bring healing to the nations…now not simply, through a small number – but an army of believers, infiltrators of the Holy kind, mighty warriors positioned for the greatest affect, to pronounce His Kingdom come and His will be done on earth now – as it is in Heaven.
And more and more as we see the day approaching.. Hebrews 10:25, 1 Thessalonians 5
Why does God heal? He doesn’t want anyone to be in pain.
The world has seen the great wickedness, death, destruction and disease….and questioned God – if God really cares why does He allow this or that to happen?…..even though God has been at work in restoring, renewing, healing, resurrecting the dead…it has not been like a chess game…one moves, the other (opponent) has a shot…no!
God has always been in the business of restoration…but a time is coming – even upon us now – where the world will see, that His plan has been in place and is in fact being enacted – and now to a point, where healing of the sick, casting out of demons, resurrecting of the dead are a daily occurrence…an unavoidable reality…His Power made perfect in weakness, His Presence in the midst of His people – seen! This is what I mean by the “must” depart…
15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
